In the summer of 2006, Vyv Wood-Gee and her 13 year old daughter Elsa did their inaugural "Ride for Research" from John O'Groats to Lands End.  With their stoic Fell ponies, they covered 1,335 miles in 54 days, raising a total of £11,245.62 for Cancer Research UK.  You can read more about this trip on the John O'Groats to Lands End section of this website.  Thank you to everyone who sponsored and supported us.

In 2010, Vyv is setting off on another long ride through Britain,  this time alone, following in the footsteps of the drovers from Skye to Smithfield Market in London.  It's not just about raising more money for Cancer Research UK, but researching on the hoof, so to speak, how significant droving was to our culture and economy, and how our countryside has changed since the days when cattle were walked up to 1,000 miles to market.  You can find out more about why, where, how and when Vyv is doing this ride on the Drovers Footsteps section .

Why we're riding in aid of Cancer Research UK

Our many friends who have suffered from cancer have made us realise how important it is to live your dreams while you can.  They have also inspired us to raise as much money as we can for Cancer Research UK.   We know it can make a difference.

One in three of us will get cancer at some point in our lives, but cancer need not be a death sentence.  Screening, earlier detection and improved treatments have all improved survival rates.  In 1970 about half those diagnosed with breast cancer survived for 5 years.  Now the figure is 80%. By supporting Cancer Research UK you can help change the statistics in future for all kinds of cancer.

You can sponsor Vyv online at

or send cheques made payable to Cancer Research UK to the address at the end of this website. Every penny raised goes 100% to cancer research.
